To apply, candidates need to be unattached (naturally) and in their 20s and 30s.  "As a matchmaker I struggle to recruit men to events and most others find the same. This is an attempt to flush them out and also restore single Londoner's faith in the unattached 20/30 something men," Social Concierge founder Nana Wereko-Brobby told us.  “City boys are used to networking events full of men. So when they make it through the door of our events – full of women who are not just attractive but driven – they really get involved!" So what do our winning bachelors get in return for putting themselves forward? Well, aside from an ego boost, a year’s free Platinum SC dating club membership worth £6,000 – for unlimited bespoke dates and a concierge service.  And anyone who nominates their friend or colleague can be in with a change to win an overnight stay for two at the glitzy South Place Hotel, including an unlimited Prosecco Sunday brunch. The shortlist will be revealed in December, with the winner announced in a big “dating party” on 9 January. Go on, nominate your colleagues, it’ll be fun.  whatsapp Where’s the City’s most eligible bachelor? center_img Monday 17 November 2014 9:11 pm Gabriella Griffith whatsapp Tags: NULLlast_img

The survey results were released by financial information services firm Markit yesterday. The manufacturing PMI for November scored 53.5 which – being above 50 – signifies expansion and marks a four-month high.Output, new orders and employment all saw increases in November. Manufacturing PMIs for the Eurozone were also released by Markit yesterday. The Eurozone PMI fell to 50.1 implying the manufacturing sector is stagnating as it was close to 50. The figure is a drop from October’s 50.6. Worrying signals appeared in the country breakdown. Germany, Italy and France – the three largest Eurozone members – all registered a PMI consistent with a contraction in the manufacturing sector. The news adds further pessimism to the economic growth prospects of the currency union. Especially troublesome was Germany’s PMI, which edged down to a 17-month low of 49.5.Robust domestic sales outweighed the Eurozone export drag.“The news on the domestic front was especially positive, with solid new order inflows from the UK market the main pillar supporting the expansion. However, manufacturers reported subdued growth in export orders,” said economist Rob Dobson from Markit. The figures come after survey results published yesterday by consultants BDO and manufacturing industry body EEF told the same story of a buoyant domestic economy more than offsetting a weak export market. “Despite more disappointing results in key markets such as the Eurozone, this year should be the strongest year for industry since 2010,” said Lee Hopley, chief economist at EEF. It points to a solid end for the first 12 months after Merlin's IPO in November last year.  Results have been boosted by Legoland Parks, with the release of the Lego movie offering a further fillip.  Operations in Bangkok have continued to be a “drag on growth,” however. The details themselves will be released on 26 February, when Merlin releases its annual results. Nick Varney, Merlin's chief executive, said:As we approach the end of our first financial year as a public company, I'm pleased to report continued good trading across the business, reflecting positive underlying trends, favourable weather in the period, and this year's exceptional performance in Legoland Parks. The trading in the balance of the year comprises primarily our year-round Legoland Parks in North America and the Midway Attractions Operating Group, including the peak season for our attractions in Australia and New Zealand. Whilst there is still some significant trading to come, we are confident in delivering a strong full year result. The performance this year has benefited from a number of one-off factors and whilst we remain positive on the outlook for 2015, our expectations remain unchanged. Merlin announced last week that it is to open a Legoland theme park in south Korea, in the city of Chuncheon. The park will be the sixth such park and is expected to open in 2017.  Tags: Company Merlin Entertainments Billy Ehrenberg last_img

City economists vote to hold rates

by admin
first_img Share Show Comments ▼ whatsapp City economists vote to hold rates whatsappcenter_img Express KCS Our guest panel of city economists has voted to hold rates this month. Among the main concerns were lower rates of inflation becoming embedded in people’s expectations. However, one hawk argues that low interest rates are in danger of becoming embedded in borrowers’ expectations. Other concerns were the potential for a new Greek crisis and signs of a slowdown in the UK’s economic growth at the end of 2014. The latest inflation reading in the UK was 0.5 per cent in December, as measured by the year-on-year change in the consumer price index. Meanwhile, the Bank of England’s bank rate is currently at 0.5 per cent, where it has remained since March 2009.CITY A.M.’S SHADOW MPCOUR PANEL’S GUEST CHAIR FOR THIS MONTH: PHILIP SHAW | INVESTECHold. Results from recent surveys indicate that the recovery has lost relatively little momentum and spending should be further supported by the decline in petrol prices. However, there are risks from the uncertainty in Greece and moreover inflation is well below target and may go negative soon. The case to sit tight is compelling while we await more clarity on medium-term prospects.JAMES SPROULE INSTITUTE OF DIRECTORSRaise rates. The economy is still growing well enough to justify normalising rates; the danger is that overly loose policy leads to dependency on ultra-low rates.GEORGE BUCKLEY DEUTSCHE BANKNo change. The high chance of inflation turning negative, alongside weaker economic growth this year compared to last, suggests that now is not the time to tighten monetary policy.ROBERT WOOD BERENBERG BANKNo change. Inflation might turn negative soon while wage growth is still weak. There is plenty of time to wait.SAMUEL TOMBS CAPITAL ECONOMICSNo change. We need to wait and see whether near-zero inflation starts to have any detrimental “second-round” effects on inflation expectations and wages.SIMON WARD HENDERSONRaise rates. Growth remains solid, the labour market is tightening further and wages are picking up. Eurozone prospects are brightening.VICKY PRYCE BIS AND CEBR ADVISERNo change. The end of 2014 suggested a slowdown in the rate of growth and despite some recent pick up in construction, manufacturing and services, downward risks remain in Europe.TREVOR WILLIAMS LLOYDS BANKNo change. Inflation is below target, and is likely to turn negative soon. Growth slowed to 0.5 per cent in the last three months of 2014, and risks from our key market in Europe remain high.ROSS WALKER RBSNo change. Although the medium-term inflation outlook has not changed much in recent months, there is a growing risk that the sharp undershoot in current inflation affects expectations. Under the alliance, DeNA will also be able to strengthen its gaming business at a global scale by leveraging Nintendo’s IP. DeNA’s roster of mobile games includes MARVEL War of Heroes, Star Wars Galactic Defence and Transformers: Age of Extinction. For Nintendo, it is hoped the deal will recapture the loyalty of lapsed users who will "enjoy the unique kind of gameplay found only with Nintendo" and have "the opportunity to explore even more premium experiences on Nintendo's dedicated video game platforms" according to a company statement. The Japanese gaming giant has seen recent console sales of the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS dwarfed by releases from Xbox and PlayStation. Handheld consoles such as the Game Boy, once Nintendo's bread and butter, have been replaced in consumers' hands with gaming apps on smartphones or tablets. Data from Euromonitor International reveals that between 2008 – 2013 mobile game sales soared by 1,123 per cent while hand-held device games dropped 76 per cent.  Club Nintendo, the company's previous membership scheme, was scrapped last year and could now be replaced by a cross-platform online membership service available on smartphones, tablets, PC and Nintendo consoles.  whatsapp Show Comments ▼ Share Joe Hall Nintendo will bring Super Mario to smartphones in deal with DeNA whatsapp Tags: NULLlast_img

But it's actually a lot nicer up North.A better work-life balance propelled locations in the North of England to the top of the list, with the Bebington, Wirral postcode district of CH63 taking first place. Here residents are able to live closer to their workplace, surrounded by good schools as well as high employment. The average asking price for a detached house is £344.996 according to data from online property portal Zoopla, well below that of a typical flat in the capital which tends to be around £480,390.And the highest southern postcode district to make it into the top ten was the old town of Kesgrave in Ipswich, where properties tend to fetch around £249,047. The study, commissioned by Royal Mail, looked into the most desirable places to live and work across the UK. Eurozone deflation: Consumer prices fell 0.1 per cent in March

by admin
first_imgTuesday 31 March 2015 5:11 am Eurozone deflation: Consumer prices fell 0.1 per cent in March whatsapp Show Comments ▼ While inflation in the Eurozone fell for a fourth consecutive month in March the rate of decline slowed again, meaning it's even closer to returning to inflation.Consumer prices fell 0.1 per cent in March in line with analysts expectations, and up from -0.3 per cent last month, according to a flash estimate from Eurostat, the European Commission's statistics bureau.  But core inflation, which strips out the most volatile sectors such as food and energy, fell slightly to 0.6 per cent, down from 0.7 per cent a month earlier, painting a mixed picture for the single bloc. There's been a smattering of brighter economic data out of the Eurozone recently. Consumer confidence rose for the fourth month straight this month to its highest level since mid-2011. Retail sales rose at the fastest rate in over nine years in January, showing low prices aren't causing consumers aren't to delay purchases just yet.The European Commission predicts that the Eurozone economy will grow by about 1.3 per cent this year, suggesting it's on course to avoid falling into a prolonged bout of deflation and economic stagnation. The economy is expected to benefit from low oil prices, which fell as low as $45 per barrel in January. Additionally the European Central Banks €1.1 trillion (£800bn) debt-buying programme will be a boon. And it'll also be helped by the euro, which slid to a seven-year low against the pound earlier this month, making its exports more competitive internationally.
